Our founder and my mentor Neal Maine instilled in me a most important philosophy: “There’s no looking back, Katie,” he would say. “It is always about the future.” And so, dear friends of NCLC, please join us in a toast: to the gift of life, for which we are all so grateful; to the coast itself, dynamic and ever-changing; and to the future, where our vision as land stewards always lies.
We have already received an outpouring of support, and we thank you for that. We will be in close touch with you as we take our next steps. We are working on arranging temporary office space and acquiring computers; until then, you may not be able to reach us at our office phone number, and our access to e-mail may be limited. As soon as we have a clearer picture of our needs, we will ask. I look forward to collaborating with you to create not only new office space for the land trust but a place where the community can gather, in a preserve where children can explore and discover the wonders of nature and people of all ages can connect with the land—a most precious gift.
